Edit recipes and see their history

Change a recipe whenever you like. Every time you save, Savorum keeps the earlier version, so you can look back and restore it if you change your mind.

  1. Open the recipe and choose Edit.
  2. Make your changes. Press Ctrl+Enter (Command+Enter on a Mac) to add a row after the current ingredient or step.
  3. Save.

There’s no need to make a copy first: the history keeps the old version. To keep a genuinely different way of making the dish, add it as a variation.

Open the recipe’s history and choose a version to see what it looked like. Restore it if you want it back.

When a recipe offers a choice, like “butter or margarine”, open More options → Details on the ingredient and choose Add alternative. Each choice keeps its own amount, and both scale and appear in search.

A choice can be Either ingredient, Either or both, or First preferred; others may substitute. Savorum never decides for you which foods can stand in for each other.

When a step uses an ingredient, a timer, an oven temperature, or a photo, link it to that step in the editor instead of retyping it. If you change the detail later, every step that uses it stays correct.

  1. Choose Select in your library, pick both recipes, and choose Compare. The differences are highlighted.
  2. To merge them, choose Combine recipes.
  3. Pick which recipe to keep and which parts to take from each, then check the preview before saving.

The other recipe moves to the trash, where you can still restore it.

Move to trash hides a recipe from your library and search, but keeps everything about it. To bring it back, open the trash and choose Restore.

Delete permanently is only available from the trash, and can’t be undone. It removes the recipe and all its history. If you run Savorum yourself, make a backup first.

  • Savorum keeps every version of every recipe and book. Nothing is cleaned up automatically.
  • If someone else saved a change while you were editing, Savorum shows both versions and asks which to keep, so nobody’s work is lost.
  • Choose whose cups and spoons the recipe uses under Measurements, next to the Ingredients heading, before you type. See Review measurements.

Next: Add recipe details such as yields, nutrition, and translations.
