Export recipes and back up your library

Save a copy of your recipes to share them, open them in another app, or keep them safe.

  1. Open a recipe and choose Export as SREF.
  2. Savorum saves a .sref file with the recipe and its photos, in the open SREF format.

To export several recipes, select them or export a whole book. You get one .srefbundle file with the recipes in order. Anyone using Savorum, or another app that supports SREF, can import these files.

In Savorum Cloud, your library is backed up for you.

If you run Savorum yourself, use the backup command. It saves everything in one .savorum-backup file, and it’s safe to run while Savorum is in use:

Terminal window
savorum backup \
--database /var/lib/savorum/savorum.db \
--assets /var/lib/savorum/assets \
--output /var/backups/savorum/instance.savorum-backup
savorum verify --input /var/backups/savorum/instance.savorum-backup

Then keep a copy somewhere else, such as another disk or a cloud drive, run savorum verify again after copying it, and try restoring it now and then. Back up and restore has the full steps.

  • An export holds the recipe as saved, not scaled or converted the way you’re viewing it. It leaves out tags, books and chapters, ratings, personal notes, cooking history, and earlier versions.
  • An export fails if a recipe has no ingredients or steps, or if one of its photo files is missing. Savorum never downloads a missing photo again. Add the photo again or remove it, then export.
  • Don’t copy the database file while Savorum is running. The copy may be incomplete.

Next: if you run Savorum yourself, Back up and restore an instance. Otherwise, back to Savorum help.
