Scale and print recipes

Change the batch to make more or less, or print a copy for the kitchen. Neither changes the saved recipe.

  1. Open a recipe and change the number in Makes, or use the plus and minus buttons. The amounts update as you go, and a multiplier shows how much you’ve scaled.
  2. If the recipe gives more than one yield, like “8 dumplings, serves 4”, choose which one to count under Scale by. The other follows along: 16 dumplings serves 8.
  3. Read through the scaled recipe before you cook. Anything marked amount as written or wording as written wasn’t scaled, so work it out yourself.

You can also show amounts as written, or in metric, US, or Australian measures. Your preferences set the default. Savorum remembers the batch for each recipe, so a recipe you always double stays doubled.

  1. Open a recipe and choose Print. For a book, choose Print book.
  2. Choose a page size: A4, US Letter, or 3 × 5, 4 × 6, or 5 × 8-inch Recipe cards.
  3. Choose the batch under Batch to print, and what to include under Content.
  4. Savorum makes a PDF. Print it at 100 percent when the card or page size matters.

To print several recipes in one PDF, choose Select in your library, pick the recipes, and choose Print.

  • These aren’t scaled: the method, amounts without a number like “a pinch of salt”, several measures in one phrase like “0.33 cup/66 grams sugar”, an equivalent in a note like “227 grams, 2 sticks”, and equipment. A step may also mention an amount in its text.
  • Diet and allergen statements print unless you leave them out. Nutrition prints when you choose it.
  • Choices on the print form apply to this print only. To change the paper size or photo setting for every print, use your preferences.
  • One PDF holds up to 250 recipes. If you run Savorum yourself, you can change that limit.
  • If the PDF has expired when you come back to it, print it again.
  • Arabic and Hebrew recipes print right to left, whatever language you use Savorum in.
  • Photos print with their credit. If a photo can’t be included, the PDF says so.
