A few useful terms

Plain explanations of the words you’ll see in Savorum and in this help.

Recipe: the cooking content itself, meaning the ingredients, steps, yield, and where it came from. This is the part you take with you when you export.

Library: your collection of recipes, plus everything you add around them: tags, books, notes, ratings, cooking history, and earlier versions. Several people can share a library.

Library entry: one recipe as it lives in your library, with its tags, notes, and history.

Role: what someone can do in a shared library. A Viewer can read, an Editor can make changes, and an Owner can also manage who has access.

Account: one person’s sign-in. You can sign in with a password, a passkey, or a sign-in service your organization uses. See Your account and sign-in.

Passkey: a way to sign in with your phone, computer, password manager, or security key instead of a password.

Single sign-on: signing in to Savorum with an account you already have elsewhere, such as at work. See Single sign-on.

Local mode: how Savorum starts when you run it yourself, with no sign-in. Only use it while Savorum is reachable from your own computer alone. See Accounts and access.

Personal API token: a key that lets another program use your library on your behalf, with only the permissions you choose. See Your account and sign-in.

SREF: the Structured Recipe Exchange Format, an open format for saving recipes so any app can read them. It is a separate project from Savorum, and still young. Learn more.

Recipe file (.sref): one exported recipe, with its photos. A bundle (.srefbundle) holds several recipes in order.

Library backup (.savorum-backup): a complete copy of a Savorum server, including every library, photo, and version. See Export and backup.

History: the earlier versions of a recipe, kept every time you save. History lets you undo an edit, but it isn’t a backup: if the server is lost, its history goes with it.

As written: the amount exactly as the recipe states it. When you scale a recipe or switch measurements, Savorum shows new amounts without changing what was written.

Original file: a PDF or photo you chose to keep when importing a recipe. It’s included in library backups, but not in single-recipe exports.

Reverse proxy: a program, such as Caddy or nginx, that sits in front of Savorum and handles HTTPS. See Secure remote access.
